Master schedule as part of the conversation! That is big!

Great summary of the genuine issues of AI in K-12 education. Over the past couple of years I have certainly seen my own school address LLMs and their packaged variations for schools as mere tools. It is helpful for me to read your more organized version of what many of us have been feeling in these early days of teaching in an LLM world.

One preliminary conclusion I’ve come to is that I will know my school is taking AI’s potential (and drawbacks) seriously when the conversation about changing the master schedule is brought up. While I don’t have a compelling argument for what the master schedule should look like in an AI collaborative learning environment, my hunch is that 50 minutes, 4 days a week is not it.

Really enjoyed this one! Love how AI is reshaping what I consider to be a long-broken system.

Very intriguing. Many points for educators and decision makers to consider.

Allow me to ask you for a frank response:

“Do you really think that A.I. will be a collaborator with humans? Do you think the Magnificent 7 AI corporations developed AI to enhance human intelligence and existence? Recall that since 1956 the goal of AI development was to outperform humans.

How does that square with collaboration?

I honestly wish that collaboration and co-existence were the goal, but 80% human unemployment doesn’t sound like the same goal posts.

The call for deep AI literacy and intentional curriculum design is spot on. Without it, we risk efficiency without understanding. Also, the point about young students forming formative relationships with AI is huge; it is shaping cognition and creativity in ways schools are barely acknowledging. Definitely a conversation worth having at every level of education. Thanks for sharing.
